If you’re looking to get in shape from the comfort of your own home then this article for the Schwinn 830 treadmill reviews is the one for you.

This is not a light-hearted recommendation. I have been using treadmills for many years; few represent such good value for money.

This product is manufactured by Schwinn. If you look at the array of [easyazon_link identifier=”B01KAGX7C6″ locale=”US” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″]Schwinn 830 treadmill[/easyazon_link] reviews available you’ll instantly note that they all comment on the quality of this name.

Schwinn originally started producing bicycles in 1895! By the end of 1896, it had gained more victories in the Schwinn racing program than any other manufacturer!

They have been making indoor exercise products since 1965; this explains why they are so good at it. They now offer a full range of fitness equipment, all of which are deemed to be of high quality. But this guide takes a look at the Schwinn 830 treadmill reviews and makes sense of them all for you.

So let’s get started!

Schwinn 830 Treadmill Reviews

Schwinn 830 treadmill reviews

Customer Reviews

Unsurprisingly there are several places where you can purchase Schwinn machines. The one thing that is clear from these places is that the Schwinn 830 treadmill reviews are all generally positive:

6 stars from Walmart consumers.

5-star rating from Sears customers!

5-star rating from eBay users.

That’s a pretty impressive starting point that simply backs up my own findings.

It is worth noting that you cannot buy direct from Schwinn; you need to use one of their retailers. For this reason, it is essential that you check the shipping rate and take this into consideration before you commit to your purchase.

Advantages

There are many advantages to choosing this [easyazon_link identifier=”B00KVZMC7I” locale=”US” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″]Schwinn 830[/easyazon_link]; whether you are just starting out on your fitness journey or have been doing it for some time.

Folding System

Extremely Quiet & Smooth

An Array of Programs to choose from

Health Monitoring Aids

Price

Good Warranty

The Folding System

The 830 is foldable! This will ensure that you can fit it into a small space, use it when you need it, and still not be tripping over it every minute.

You’ll need approximately 7 feet by 3 feet when your treadmill is unfolded. Once you’ve finished your workout the running platform simply lifts up. All you need to do is push a button and lift. It is aided by an internal system of pulleys which means this takes minimal effort.

Once folded it takes approximately half of the space needed when in use.

As a nice extra touch, Schwinn has added small wheels to help you easily reposition the treadmill. They can be used to glide it against the wall or to bring it into the right operating position.

Smoothness of Operation

The sign of a good treadmill is how smoothly it runs. It is much easier to keep and use it in your office or living room if you can exercise while doing other activities.

This isn’t usually an option if you have a loud treadmill.

[easyazon_link identifier=”B01KAGX7C6″ locale=”US” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″]The Schwinn 830[/easyazon_link] uses a belt motor with 2.75 hp. This is powerful enough to keep pace with you running flat out but small enough to create minimal noise. This is accompanied by 2.5” crowned rollers to ensure the treadmill operates as quietly as possible.

In addition, the 830 has a sturdy frame and is heavy enough to ensure there are no unnecessary vibrations or noise.

The impact of your feet is absorbed with a specially designed four-cell cushioning system built into the belt. This helps you to run smoothly, minimizes the impact on your joints, and helps to keep noise to a minimum.

It is surprisingly effective!

Program Choice

The 830 has an array of programs to choose from. This is essential to you continuing to use the machine. Programs provide variety and challenge; keeping your body working hard and the activity fun.

The main screen has a blue backlit display to facilitate use while you’re in motion.

You can even connect to Schwinn or MyFitnessPal to download your workout data and build a record of your achievements.

There are as many as 22 programs on offer. These include:

Quick goal

Distance, time, and calories

Aerobic

Fat burn

Calorie burn

Incline

Custom

These are just a few of those on offer; you’re certain to find one that suits your needs or even defines your own!

It is worth noting that the Schwinn 830 gives you a USB charging port, an MP3 port with built-in speakers, and a media shelf. You can even put a tablet on this shelf to track your progress.

Health Monitoring Abilities

Being able to set the program allows you to make the most of your workout. But to ensure this is the case you need to be able to monitor your workout data.

Fortunately the [easyazon_link identifier=”B01KAGX7C6″ locale=”US” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″]830[/easyazon_link] has everything you need to achieve this goal!

There are grips just below the display console which will allow you to monitor your heart rate as you run. You can then access information regarding your peak heart rate, your average rate, and the heart rate zone you should be operating in.

There is also a useful display to show the time you’ve spent exercising, the distance, and the calories burned.

Alongside this, you’ll find it shows your incline setting and the speed at which you’re running.

The best thing is that the 830 links to your app to allow you to record and examine this data at a later date.

Affordable Price

The price of the Schwinn 830 treadmill will vary according to where you purchase it. As already mentioned; postage plays a part in this.

But, this is an excellent mid-range treadmill; it’s worth paying a little more than the budget options for the extra features and build quality.

The fact that it has a great reputation for reliability and builds quality is simply the icing on your fat-free cake!

Warranty Details

The confidence that Schwinn has in its products it’s borne out by the excellent warranty that comes with the 830 treadmills.

Of course, if you take a look at the array of [easyazon_link identifier=”B01KAGX7C6″ locale=”US” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″]Schwinn 830 treadmill[/easyazon_link] reviews you’ll quickly realize that things don’t often go wrong with this machine!

It needs very little maintenance and is ready to use when you need it.

The warranty covers:

Frame – for 10 years.

The Motor – also for 10 years.

All mechanical parts – for 2 years.

The electronic components – also for 2 years.

Labor on any repairs – for 1 year.

You should feel confident about purchasing this treadmill with such a good warranty. Breaking down your purchase against the warranty means that you’re paying between $50 and $100 per year for this machine.

That’s a lot less than a gym membership and it’s a lot easier to get to!

Disadvantages

Of course, no machine is perfect, even one that has scored 5 stars in 2 of the 3 customer ratings above.

There are several issues to consider:

Assembly Issues

Running Platform Could Be Bigger

The Assembly Issues

This is actually a very common issue with many larger exercise machines.

There are several different components that must be put together to ensure the machine is ready for use.

This is time-consuming and has been commented on in several of the Schwinn 830 treadmill reviews.

To complete the assembly successfully with the minimal of issues it is best if you have several hours spare and the assistance of a friend. You can always let them have a go on the finished machine!

It has been said that the instructions are a little complicated, this is why you need to allow yourself time and take it slowly.

Of course, once you’ve set the machine up you shouldn’t need to do it again!

Platform Size Issues

Your running platform is 55” long by 20” wide. This is actually pretty good!

The fact that this is listed as a disadvantage shows just how few issues there really are with the 830.

This amount of space should be satisfactory for most runners. However, if you’re over 6 feet tall then you may struggle to get your full stride in on the space available.

In this instance it is worth considering the 830’s big brother; [easyazon_link identifier=”B01NATSWL2″ locale=”US” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″]the Schwinn 870[/easyazon_link]; you’ll gain an extra 5 inches of running space. The width remains the same and space it takes up is not noticeably different.

[easyazon_image align=”none” height=”500″ identifier=”B01KAGX7C6″ locale=”US” src=”https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/41txoNfkg6L.jpg” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″ width=”500″]View on Amazon

The Running Line

The quality of the 830 is evident in all the [easyazon_link identifier=”B01KAGX7C6″ locale=”US” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″]Schwinn 830 treadmill[/easyazon_link] reviews and in the product; even while you are putting it together.

Combining this with the warranty and you have a machine that is likely to help you reach your fitness goals. The alternative is that it becomes an expensive clothes horse.

But, in my personal opinion and experience, this is unlikely. The smoothness of the operation allows you to use this and still watch the television; if you choose.

The range of programs and activities will ensure you remain interested and find your running fun. Perhaps the best part of all is that you can do it regardless of what the weather is doing outside.

It doesn’t matter if you are new to exercise or have been using treadmills for years; this is an affordable and extremely valuable addition to your home. You will see positive results; as long as you use it.

But don’t forget, you still need to warm up and down when using a treadmill to minimize the risk of injury!

ProForm is a big name when it comes to treadmills and we will be looking at [easyazon_link identifier=”B00OOH7756″ locale=”US” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″]ProForm 520 ZN[/easyazon_link] Treadmill Review. This is a staple part of their range and is at the cheaper end of their treadmills. I would recommend it highly for anybody looking for a great entry-level running treadmill. It has lots of useful options and is very well built and smartly designed. For entry-level or those on a budget, it’s perfect. For advanced runners or people wanting a high-end treadmill, I would suggest looking at other options.

I’ve been a runner for most of my life, beginning in high school. Back in those days I kind of stumbled into the athletics and cross-country teams thanks to my natural endurance ability. Since then I have gone on to compete at an international level in amateur combat sports so running has become a very important part of my fitness routine, and I usually run 2-4 times a week.

In the last 10 years, a lot of my running has been on a treadmill. Of course, I still love to get outdoors, and I’m sure you do too! It can be easier to monitor distance/speed and other factors on a treadmill though. Also, the weather, pollution, or crowded places can put us off going outdoor running at times, so a treadmill is a nice option to have.

Below we have listed some average review ratings for this unit and we take a deeper look at some pros and cons of this particular treadmill. Read on to learn more!

Breaking Down the Info

Pros:

The Deck

The deck is an important part of any treadmill. [easyazon_link identifier=”B00OOH7756″ locale=”US” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″]ProForm’s 520 ZN[/easyazon_link] has a deck with lots of benefits for you.

Firstly the deck folds up neatly. This gives you more versatility because you can have it set up only when you need it and can fold it away for more floor space at other times. It can also be useful for safety. If you have children or pets it’s nice to know they won’t accidentally turn the treadmill on and get hurt. Finally, folding away makes it less likely to get dirty or be damaged when not in use.

Folding and unfolding are very easy with this treadmill. There is a catch to secure it in the folded position, though you have to lift and lower it yourself because there isn’t any automated mechanism for these tasks.

[easyazon_image align=”center” height=”500″ identifier=”B01LW2VNWZ” locale=”US” src=”https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/41ITEXCVXeL.jpg” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″ width=”500″]View on Amazon

The deck is very strong and can handle around 136 kg of weight. Of course, it’s also got ProForm’s trademark cushioning system, featured on all of their range. They call it ProShox and it’s basically a suspension system, so it absorbs some of the impacts which usually go to your joints. That means your legs will stay healthier and you’re less likely to get injured when running on this treadmill.

With that said, the cushioning is a perfect level so it doesn’t cause too much bounce or take any extra energy to run on. The bounce is hardly noticeable when running and its deck holds strong with no slipping or sliding of the belt.

The belt measures 20” x 55”, and has a well-textured surface which gives a good grip and less chance of slipping off.

Durability

Some people might be worried that a deck with such good cushioning and a fold-away feature would not be as durable as a solid frame. That isn’t true. ProForm treadmills all share the same tough materials. One drawback that comes with this durability is its weight, it comes in at close to 100kg and can be difficult to move because of that.

The 25 years warrantied motor

It has a great motor too, complete with a 25-year warranty. That should give you plenty of confidence in how long it lasts, after all, they wouldn’t give that long a warranty without believing in it, right?

This particular motor is designed to operate for short or long time periods and won’t overheat on longer runs. While some cheaper motors might slow down when heavier users are on the treadmill, that isn’t the case with the [easyazon_link identifier=”B00OOH7756″ locale=”US” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″]520 ZN[/easyazon_link]. It keeps on going at the right speed even if it’s close to the max. weight load.

Incline settings use a separate motor which is also covered by the warranty. This one is a standard unit made to raise/lower the treadmill, which is equally reliable and has much less work to do.

Convenience

Fan unit

A lot of budget treadmills are only focused on the running side of things. They neglect important little features which could be very useful. To get things like built-in sound systems and cooling fans you usually need to spend more and get a more upmarket type of treadmill.

ProForm have focused on this area for their [easyazon_link identifier=”B00OOH7756″ locale=”US” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″]520 ZN[/easyazon_link]. It comes with a built-in fan right on the user console. The fan has two different settings and you can use it to help keep you cool on hot days or hard runs. Nobody likes to feel overheated and this fan does a good job of cooling you down.

There are also cup holders on each side. Both of these are fine for bottles/flasks to be placed on so you have somewhere to keep water at hand, and could even use the opposite side for a post-workout shake or similar. If not, I usually just throw my sweat towel on there, again it keeps it handy so I can wipe off excess sweat during the run.

There’s also a music input port which you can plug almost any device in to by using an aux cable. [easyazon_link identifier=”B00OOH7756″ locale=”US” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″]ProForm’s 520 ZN[/easyazon_link] has a pair of built-in speakers so you can play music/videos out loud, and there’s also a slot at the top of the console which is perfect for holding phones/tablets.

The sound quality is good with this system, although not amazing. With that said, how much sound quality do we actually need while working out? It’s good enough to hear clearly, just not HD quality. There is also a heart rate monitor built-in, a standard feature for most treadmills nowadays.

Variety

Along with the adjustable speed and incline, there are a lot of different pre-made workout programs you can do. 18 to be exact, all of them designed by a certified trainer, which again is expected with professional fitness products.

The variety of programs means you can focus on different goals as well, whether you’re training to improve your cardiovascular health, lose weight, or are preparing for a sporting event. It also gives a lot of options so you don’t have to repeat the same workouts and get bored with them.

Cons:

Display

The display uses nice, large figures on the display making it easier to see and read them. However, the screen is quite small so there isn’t much space for information and it only gives a little bit of basic info at a time. You have to use the console to switch settings when you want to see other information.

[easyazon_image align=”right” height=”140″ identifier=”B079GMGLLW” locale=”US” src=”https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/51botm91pfL._SL160_.jpg” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″ width=”160″] Also the display on our treadmill was not backlit. I’ve spoken to lots of runners and those who have tried this product said they also had the same problem. So despite being advertised as backlit, the display is not backlit and can be hard to see unless you’re in bright surroundings.

Limited Speed/Incline

Running is usually a progressive exercise, meaning over time it needs to be made harder to keep on improving. We do this on a treadmill by raising the incline or increasing the speed. The ProForm 520 can do this but it has a low limit on both sides.

The speed is capped to 10mph, which means you can do a quick jog at best and won’t be able to sprint on here. The incline is also capped at 10%, which is enough for most people but not enough for activities like hill sprints, or mountain training.

Without bigger limits, there is only a certain amount of fitness that can be gained from using this treadmill.

ProForm 520 ZN Treadmill Review

Basic Settings

When it comes to treadmill features, they almost all have some pre-made programs and other basics like a heart rate monitor, cup holder, etc. To stand out a treadmill has to go beyond the basics. That could mean designing and saving your own programs, saving stats on your performances, or providing a variety of information on your workout.

This unit doesn’t do any of that, other than the basic calories burned/distance ran/average speed type of info. It won’t save any settings and it doesn’t remember any past performances. In addition, it doesn’t allow you to create your own workouts, even just for one-off usage. That makes it kind of rigid in a way and limits what it can be used for.

Bottom Line – ProForm 520 ZN Treadmill Review

Overall the [easyazon_link identifier=”B00OOH7756″ locale=”US” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″]Proform 520 ZN[/easyazon_link] is a great budget treadmill. It has many useful features and a great frame/deck with lots of durability. It also has some nice features like the speakers/sound system, fan, and folding deck. These make it more appealing for less intense runners, and because it’s offered at a cheap price it’s a great starting point to get into running.

However, the cons mentioned above are enough to not recommend it for advanced runners or athletes. They would be better off investing in a high-end model instead of this one.

Overall we give this treadmill an 8 out of 10

The elliptical trainer is a perfect way to increase your fitness and stamina without putting excessive pressure on your joints. But, there are so many different ones on the market how do you choose the right one for your needs? I’ve taken a look at the Livestrong vs. Horizon Elliptical and I’m convinced that the Horizon is the best one for the job.

Of course, you’ll ask why this is the case. I’ve been lucky enough to try machines from both manufacturers over the last few months. There is no doubt that they both have a great deal to offer. But the Horizon triumphs on price, number of features, and the quality of its build.

It’s a close call but if I had to spend my own money on one of these machines it would be [easyazon_link identifier=”B00DIUM8HW” locale=”US” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″]the Horizon[/easyazon_link]. This review should highlight why.

The Horizon Elliptical EX-69-2

Livestrong vs. Horizon Elliptical

View on Amazon

This machine is clearly built to maximize strength training and [easyazon_link identifier=”B0090OKF52″ locale=”US” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″]isolated toning[/easyazon_link]. It also has an excellent warranty. You’ll find it’s exceptionally easy to get started on the machine and it is perfectly designed to maximize your workout, even in the comfort of your own home.

Main Features

The main features of this elliptical trainer are:

Strong Design

20 Levels of Resistance

5 Manual Incline Positions

10 Programs

Dimensions 65 x 22 x 73 inches

25-pound flywheel

Advantages & Disadvantages

Of course to truly appreciate the appeal of the Horizon in a Livestrong vs. Horizon elliptical battle you need to know all the good points and the bad:

Advantages

Cost

This is a low-priced machine, competing with the budget options while offering the facilities and features you would expect to find on a medium-range elliptical trainer.

This makes it an enticing option for those on a budget or anyone who doesn’t want to invest too much in their new fitness regime.

Low Step on Height

The steps on this elliptical trainer are very low; this makes it exceptionally easy to step on and off. While this may not be a consideration for everyone it will certainly make it easier for those who are recovering from an injury.

It also places less strain on your joints as you climb on and off.

You might be please to note that it can [easyazon_link identifier=”B008PQIKNU” locale=”US” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″]accommodate a 20” stride[/easyazon_link].

High Weight Limit

The Horizon elliptical trainer is designed to handle up to 300 pounds. This makes it viable for all but the heaviest of people.

Fit Tracking

This machine uses the Via Fit system to allow you to send your workout to any fitness app you choose. It should work with all apps currently on the market!

This will allow you to track your progress and plot a new goal every time you achieve your existing one.

It should also help to keep your workouts interesting.

Excellent Warranty

The warranty on this machine is generally excellent. The manufacturer offers a lifetime warranty on the frame and the motor. It also gives you 1 year for all parts and another year to cover labor.

This means that you should be able to get your machine repaired without having to pay a penny; that’s peace of mind!

Program & Accessory Range

There is just 10 different workout programs. These cover speed, endurance, cardio, muscle building, and even strength training. This ensures you can find the right option whether you are new to working out or have been doing it for many years.

Each program will have a different range of settings for resistance and incline; ensuring you are challenged and kept interested in your workout.

You can also purchase a passport player which provides videos of scenic destinations from around the world. The movement of these adjusts to match your pace; allowing you to feel like you are actually there.

It is worth noting that this is sold separately to the machine.

You can also use the docking system for your iPhone and the built-in speakers to help focus your mind on something other than your exercise.

Disadvantages

The truth is there is very little to complain about with this machine. The following points are certainly not deal-breakers, but they are worth knowing.

5 Incline Positions

One thing that makes a workout easier is being able to quickly adjust the incline while you exercise. This is not possible on the EX-69-2.

If you want to increase the incline you need to stop exercising, manually adjust it, and then carry on. It is worth noting that this is not the same for the resistance settings.

Ease Of Assembly

The machine arrives for free to an internal space on the ground floor. You’ll then have to shift the 185 pounds to where you intend to build it.

Although there is an instruction manual with the [easyazon_link identifier=”B008PQIKNU” locale=”US” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″]EX-69-2[/easyazon_link] it is lacking in detail. This can make it challenging to build the trainer before you can use it.

Ideally have a friend available and plenty of time.

Labor warranty a little short

Although the warranty is generally excellent Horizon is only offering 1 year on the labor. Considering the quality of the machine this is not as impressive as you would hope or as good as some other manufacturers.

The Livestrong Elliptical LS8.OE

Livestrong vs. Horizon Elliptical

This is a quality machine and worth considering. However, you’ll quickly notice that it simply doesn’t offer the same range of options as the Horizon. This is a shame considering that both machines are available in the same price bracket.

Main Features

The most promising features of this machine are:

Size is 24 x 67 x 76 inches.

The LS8.OE weighs 192 pounds

9 Workout Programs

23 Pound Flywheel

5 position incline

Cushioned pedal support

16 resistance levels

Advantages & Disadvantages

There are several things that make the LS8.OE a worthwhile consideration:

Natural Feel

The LS8.OE is designed to feel as natural as possible. Every foot and hand position has been calibrated to ensure you have a smooth, natural, and resistant-free workout.

20” Stride

The 20” stride is the same as the EX-69-2. This is long for an elliptical trainer and makes the machine practical for virtually any sized person.

This is a good addition although does nothing to give the edge to the Livestrong in the Livestrong vs. Horizon Elliptical challenge

Cooling Fan Incorporated

A nice touch is the addition of a cooling fan. The speed of this can be adjusted as you workout; to ensure you stay relatively cool and fresh.

You’re probably still going to want a shower afterward, but it does help!

23-pound flywheel

This is a heavy-duty flywheel that helps to ensure the machine runs smoothly. Sadly, despite a great effort, even this is not up to the same standard as the 25-pound flywheel of the Horizon EX-69-2.

Mp3 compatible

It’s not surprising to find that the [easyazon_link identifier=”B078PW9TXK” locale=”US” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″]LS8.OE[/easyazon_link] is equipped with speakers and a connection for your mp3 player. It may not be surprising but it is still appreciated.

This helps you to set the pace and enjoy your workout while listening to your favorite tunes.

The Disadvantages

Too heavy to move easily or often

At 192 pounds this is a heavy machine to move around by yourself. In fact, it would be a workout by itself. While this helps to contribute to its stability it does mean that you need to choose a location and stick with it.

Not enough incline levels

The incline has 5 settings that can be manually adjusted. This is better than nothing but extremely disappointing compared to the majority of other machines in this range.

Problems with console

Several users have reported an issue with the console. It appears that the calories are not counted correctly and the heart rate monitor is not as accurate as it should be.

This is disappointing as it makes it difficult to trust any of the other readings displayed on the dual console.

It is also a shame that your heart rate is only monitored through the handgrips; there is no chest monitor included.

You can also monitor your time, resistance, speed, and incline rating. But you can only adjust your resistance while using the machine.

Limited Warranty

The Horizon had a disappointing labor warranty. Unfortunately, the Livestrong is worse. The frame has a lifetime warranty but the parts and labor are just 1 year.

Limited Workout Options

There are 9 different workouts. This is poor in comparison to the EX-69-2 which has 10 but a much more comprehensive range of programs. In fact, it is poor in comparison to many of the other offerings in this price bracket.

These include climb and muscle toner but do not provide the same scope of movements as the elliptical from Horizon.

Livestrong vs. Horizon Elliptical – The Bottom Line

The bottom line in the Livestrong vs. Horizon elliptical comparison is that they are both excellent entry to mid-level machines.

But, the increased weight of the flywheel, the better stability and the more versatile range of programs mean that the [easyazon_link identifier=”B008PQIKNU” locale=”US” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″]Horizon EX-69-2[/easyazon_link] should be your machine of choice.

Put simply the [easyazon_link identifier=”B008PQIKNU” locale=”US” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″]EX-69-2[/easyazon_link] gives you more options and a better level of warranty; making it the right choice for you, whether you are new to exercising or not.

Are you having trouble picking between cycling outdoors and using a treadmill? Maybe you’re considering doing both? Today we have a head-to-head comparison between Cycling Vs Treadmill.

Personally, the treadmill provides me with everything I need for an effective workout.

I prefer treadmills because they give me more options (well, the good ones do at least!). At Gymblazer we have a list of the best treadmills within a reasonable budget. I recommend the Proform ZT10. It’s equipped with tons of workout programs, decline and incline settings, and is easy to fold away for storage.

Having said that, I do also enjoy cycling outdoors too. In which case, the Huffy bikes are my top choice. It’s great for mountain biking in particular.

Learn all you need to know about cycling and using treadmills below to help you decide which is right for you.

Cycling Vs Treadmill

Cycling vs Treadmill

What To Know About Using a Treadmill

Convenience

One of the biggest benefits of using a treadmill is that you can workout from home. If you’re tight for time, rolling out a folding treadmill and easily putting it back into storage can take mere minutes.

The ease of use associated with treadmills is what makes them so appealing to so many people.

Entertainment

A common complaint among people who have used treadmills is that it’s too boring. However, if you were to set up your phone or tablet, you’ll find time flies.

[easyazon_image align=”none” height=”333″ identifier=”B00M1N76QA” locale=”US” src=”https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/41hA6w5kpzL.jpg” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″ width=”500″]View on Amazon

You can watch your favorite shows and movies while working out. For me, this is one of the major reasons why I love using a treadmill. I can do moderately intense workouts while being engrossed in movies and series – an hour on the treadmill feels like nothing!

Customized Workouts

Treadmills that let you alter the incline and speed settings provide you with more options. Therefore, you’re able to tailor the workout to your specific goals.

You can alter how difficult or easy you’d like it to be, depending on your experience level.

Furthermore, making the workout more challenging can simply involve not holding onto the side rails. This leads to more muscles being recruited and your core is engaged to keep yourself balanced.

There are many benefits of strengthening your core too.

Serious Runners

While I am a big advocate for treadmills, I must be fair – they aren’t perfect for everyone.

Treadmills may not be the best option for serious runners. This is because many of the ones that are used for homes have a maximum speed of 12 mph – which isn’t enough for runners.

What To Know About Cycling

Exercise

Of course, the biggest benefit of cycling is exercise.

People often consider cycling to predominantly involve the legs. However, your entire body is involved throughout the activity.

Even though your legs are doing the pedaling, you’re also heavily relying on your arms to keep yourself balanced. Holding onto the handles and maintaining your position takes more work than you may think.

Cycling is a form of exercise that improves your cardiovascular system. As a result, you can become fitter, and be burning more calories to lose weight too.

[easyazon_image align=”none” height=”450″ identifier=”B01EWSEBSM” locale=”US” src=”https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/41-QmZjp0%2BL.jpg” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″ width=”450″]View on Amazon

Quicker & Healthier Commuting

Getting from A to B in cities can become an energy-draining and lengthy task. Sitting in traffic on the way home from work means that’s your free time being wasted. Not to mention, many people wake up earlier just to prepare and be on time for work.

Cycling means you can cut this hectic part of your life out.

Commuting on a bicycle saves time and energizes your body with a heart-pumping start to the day.

I also like how cycling is an environmentally friendly way of traveling. You produce zero carbon emissions and avoid burning fuel in congestion.

Studies show that your exposure to harmful fumes is also reduced compared to people who travel by car.

Great For All Fitness Levels

Regardless of your experience level in fitness, anyone can hop on a bike. You’re able to go as slow or as fast as you like.

Furthermore, the impact on joints is remarkably low. Therefore, if you have bad knees, cycling may be a good option to get fit while minimizing the risk of injuries.

Social Experience

Exercising alone can demotivate many people. Cycling gives you the option to go on rides with friends and family to experience it together.

This can help to make you excited about exercising by going on fun rides.

Not to mention, you can easily create a cycling group of strangers who are all into the same activity. Bicycle groups seem to be pretty friendly to one another!

It’s Fun

Simply put, cycling can be a lot of fun. Especially if you partake in mountain biking along various trails.

It can make you forget that you’re even exercising. As a result, you’re more likely to enjoy doing it more often and notice better fitness and weight loss outcomes.

Safety

Cycling on the road with other cars can be dangerous. So, you have to remain hyper-vigilant at all times and ensure that you’re wearing a helmet to keep yourself safe.

[easyazon_image align=”none” height=”500″ identifier=”B00M1N76QA” locale=”US” src=”https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/41PT3AhgP2L.jpg” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″ width=”467″]View on Amazon

Cycling Vs Treadmill

Now you know more about what using a treadmill and cycling has to offer. So, which one should you be using?

I found this to be a tough conclusion to come to because it really does depend on the individual.

However, to help make your choice easier, the section below is going to compare cycling and using a treadmill. You’ll then be left with a clearer picture of each to consider their main benefits and drawbacks.

What Provides Better Exercise Results?

Exercise is likely the number one thing people are looking to improve with riding bicycles and using treadmills.

In this case, it’s a tie. They’re both great for exercise. Although, for people with less time and who want a more convenient way to workout, using a treadmill from home would be best.

On the other hand, people who have a little more time to spare may enjoy the outdoors aspect of exercising more.

One downfall of cycling compared to using a treadmill for me, is that you can’t see your stats. Well, not unless you’re willing to spend extra on tech.

With treadmills, you’re given information on your time, distance, calories, and heart rate. This gives you the chance to see the areas where you need to improve more clearly than you can while cycling.

Which Is Funner?

Undoubtedly, cycling provides a better chance of socializing and having fun compared to using a treadmill.

Many find being on a treadmill becomes isolating and boring. In which case, cycling is the clear winner there.

However, if you like to exercise to be your alone time, a treadmill could be perfect. Like I mentioned earlier, I love setting up my phone and watching a series for an hour while I workout. It makes the time go by so much quicker.

Which is Best for Low Impact Workouts?

Cycling and using a treadmill are both great options for people who are concerned about their bad joints.

They are both low-impact forms of exercise. Therefore, you’re able to pedal on a bicycle without putting a lot of pressure on the knees. With treadmills, you can walk/jog/run on the surface of a with minimal effects on your joints. It’s softer than the concrete ground.

Which is the Safest Option?

You may be surprised to hear that there are over 24,000 accidents a year related to treadmills.

However, the higher risk of danger comes with cycling. Especially if you’re on the road with other cars. When it comes to cycling, being extremely aware of your surroundings is crucial.

While being on the treadmill, it can also be easy to forget to concentrate, and that’s where you can end up having an accident.

In both cases, the dangers can be minimized. Most are able to experience both completely safely, provided that they remain aware and focused.

Should You Cycle or Use a Treadmill?

There are certain benefits with cycling that you just don’t get from using a treadmill. The major ones involve being outdoors and being able to commute in a healthier, environmentally friendly way.

People interested in reducing their carbon footprint and having a more social exercise experience would be more inclined to cycle.

Having said that, there are also advantages to using a treadmill that you can’t experience with cycling. The main one being ease of use.

After a long day of work, being able to conveniently roll out a treadmill and fit my workout in is bliss. I’m also able to keep a better track of my progress by the stats provided. So, I can go in with a goal each time to either go for longer, faster and to burn more calories.

Final Thoughts

At the end of the day, whether you cycle or run on a treadmill, you’re still exercising. That alone puts you ahead of most.

However, there are definitely certain people who can benefit more from one than the other.

For example, people who are busier and need a quick, convenient way to workout from their home would prefer a treadmill. The Proform ZT10 is my top choice in that scenario.

[easyazon_image align=”none” height=”500″ identifier=”B00M1N76QA” locale=”US” src=”https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/41BwDFPbvsL.jpg” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″ width=”453″]View on Amazon

Alternatively, others may want to exercise with friends and family. In which case, cycling can be more social and fun, which is a huge motivation for many.

For those purposes, I recommend the Huffy Fortress 3.0.

There are also those who can benefit from both, and that’s the camp I’m in. Personally, I incorporate cycling into my routine, but the treadmill is my first pick more often.

It all comes down to personal preference. Use the information that I’ve provided for you throughout this article. You will have a much easier time determining whether to go with cycling or a treadmill – or maybe both!
