Getting in shape is never easy. It doesn’t matter if you are a future weight-loss reality show contestant or just someone that needs to drop some winter weight before the summer. It takes hard work; hard work that some of you can complete on a Weslo Cadence G 5.9 treadmill.

But I am not one of those people, and for that reason, I cannot recommend this treadmill. I will deep dive into the Weslo Cadence G 5.9 treadmill review to support our recommendation.

I’m a big guy. I do need to get in shape and would like to. But I can’t use the [easyazon_link identifier=”B01LXGBP22″ locale=”US” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″]Weslo Cadence G 5.9 treadmill[/easyazon_link] because it’s weight capacity is only 275 pounds. My goal weight is 275 pounds. If I run on one of these treadmills—well, let’s just say the treadmill is more likely to quit than I am.

To be fair, there is a reason why it can’t handle that much weight—it’s cheap. Cheaper treadmills are not as durable or constructed to take the abuse that bigger people dish out on treadmills when they ‘run.’

If you are larger than averaged size person looking to become more average through the joy of running—try a Freemotion 850 treadmill. They are going to cost a lot more than a Weslo Cadence G 5.9 treadmill, but they are much less likely to break down under the strain of your weight.

If you are going to overpay for something other than healthy eating options, it might as well be a treadmill that can stand the test of time and your weight. But if you’re not extremely overweight; if you are just in the mid-to-high 200 lbs. range, this is not a bad buy.

It may still break down on you within months of your purchase, but for some people, that may be a risk they are willing to take.

The Breakdown— the Pros

Affordable

Let’s be real for a moment here. Yes, we all want to have [easyazon_link identifier=”B01LXGBP22″ locale=”US” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″]a treadmill[/easyazon_link] that can withstand the test of time and be used by large, NFL offensive linemen-type people. But those treadmills cost a lot of money. When you buy one of them, you don’t lose weight because you are working out more. You lose weight because you can’t afford food.

The treadmills from Weslo are inexpensive. It is easy to purchase without having to take out a loan, sign up for a new credit card, or skip meals. It is an affordable treadmill that can help you get started on your road to health and wellness.

Some drawbacks come with lower-priced products, but at least you can still afford a Jamba Juice smoothie after buying one of these.

[easyazon_image align=”none” height=”498″ identifier=”B01LXGBP22″ locale=”US” src=”https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/412Wvfkp81L.jpg” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″ width=”500″]View on Amazon

Convenient

The lower price makes it easier to afford which will, in turn, make exercising more convenient for you. But getting a [easyazon_link identifier=”B01LXGBP22″ locale=”US” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″]Weslo Cadence G 5.9 treadmill[/easyazon_link] home and up and running is easy and convenient as well. Many users talked in their reviews how it only took them 20-30 minutes to put it together. Some of the work is easier with help, but one person can get the job done.

Storing a treadmill can be difficult for many people, but this one is collapsible! So, after completing your workout, you can fold it up, and store it underneath the bed, in a closet, or against the wall. Since it isn’t extremely heavy (117 lbs.), it isn’t too hard to move!

[easyazon_image align=”none” height=”372″ identifier=”B01LXGBP22″ locale=”US” src=”https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/41HN5kwEddL.jpg” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″ width=”500″]View on Amazon

Comfort Cell Cushioning feature

One of the worst things for all runners regardless of size is the pressure and impact that running on streets, the ground, or on a treadmill can have on your joints—especially the knees. The problem is worse for heavier people. But it is just as real for the slightly larger to average size crowd as well.

Nothing will kill your workout plans quite like knee pain. It’s easy to stop (because you are not supposed to exercise a certain way if it hurts) without feeling even a smidgen of guilt. But thanks to the Comfort Cell Cushioning technology used in the [easyazon_link identifier=”B01LXGBP22″ locale=”US” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″]Weslo Cadence G 5.9[/easyazon_link], the impact is not that bad.

This is not to say it is impact-free, but you are less likely to develop knee pain from it. Anything that can make exercising less painful is definitely a plus.

[easyazon_image align=”none” height=”500″ identifier=”B01LXGBP22″ locale=”US” src=”https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/41wNWJlRAzL.jpg” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″ width=”384″]View on Amazon

The Breakdown—the Cons

Weight Restriction

Extremely overweight people are not the only ones that need to exercise, but they are a significant segment of the market. Since the [easyazon_link identifier=”B01LXGBP22″ locale=”US” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″]Weslo Cadence G 5.9 treadmill[/easyazon_link] is not rated for people over 275 lbs. there is a rather large segment of the physical fitness customer base that can’t use it.

Could a 300 lbs. person use one? Sure. Will it probably break down sooner rather than later? Absolutely.

This treadmill is more for the “I just need to lose a few pounds and then keep it off” crowd, or the “Running is fun!” crowd.

To be fair, many reviewers over the 275 lbs. rating said they were able to use it without issues. But there were also many that said the motor couldn’t withstand a heavier person walking on it. Several under the rating talked about the screws coming loose and stripping after a few months.

[easyazon_image align=”none” height=”500″ identifier=”B01LXGBP22″ locale=”US” src=”https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/41h6lffjPAL.jpg” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″ width=”500″]View on Amazon

Manual Incline

A common feature of many treadmills these days that come in real handy is the incline setting. If you want to make your workout more challenging, you just need to raise the incline. But if you go too far—no big deal Just lower it back down.

Yeah, you can’t do that with a Weslo Cadence G 5.9.

The incline setting is only manual and it just has two settings. So, you have to set it before you start and you can’t reset it during your workout without stopping. Yes, working out on an incline is an option. But setting it and resetting is not convenient.

[easyazon_image align=”none” height=”500″ identifier=”B01LXGBP22″ locale=”US” src=”https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/415Y4fR5QIL.jpg” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″ width=”359″]View on Amazon

Low-Quality Materials

The price is a deciding factor for many people when they consider buying a treadmill. While the [easyazon_link identifier=”B01LXGBP22″ locale=”US” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″]Weslo Cadence G 5.9[/easyazon_link] is one of the more affordable treadmills on the market, there is a reason for that. To make it affordable, they had to figure out ways to cut costs in the construction. That means fewer bells and whistles than many treadmills currently on the market.

It also means the materials are of lesser quality.

In a perfect world, every product gets constructed out of the most durable material known to mankind. But that is usually not the case. It would certainly result in everything costing a whole lot more than it already does.

That doesn’t necessarily mean the treadmill is a bad one. It just means that it is less likely to withstand significant use from a 350 lbs. person relative to a 180 lbs. person. The [easyazon_link identifier=”B01LXGBP22″ locale=”US” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″]Weslo Cadence G 5.9[/easyazon_link] is not going to be able to withstand nearly as much wear and tear. This treadmill will likely break down much quicker than some of the other treadmills on the market.

In their reviews, many people complained about receiving their treadmill with broken pieces. That could be blamed on the postal service and/or insufficient packaging. But it could just as easily be the quality of the material that was at fault.

[easyazon_image align=”none” height=”500″ identifier=”B01LXGBP22″ locale=”US” src=”https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/41GNIVULtQL.jpg” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″ width=”459″]View on Amazon

Poor Warranty/Customer Service

A good warranty can make up for shoddy construction and low-quality materials. But this treadmill does not have one. There is a one-year warranty on the motor and just a 90-day warranty on parts and labor.

But, according to many reviewers, you need to read the fine print on the parts warranty. They talked about calling customer service and being told that the broken part was not covered under warranty. If they wanted a new, working part they were told they had to buy it.

As for the labor aspect, no one mentioned a repair person coming out to work on their treadmill. Instead, they were often instructed to look for instructional videos on YouTube to do everything. This included installing a new motor when the one that came with the treadmill didn’t work!

You would think in a situation like that, the company would take back the defective product and send a new one. But they didn’t.

[easyazon_image align=”none” height=”498″ identifier=”B01LXGBP22″ locale=”US” src=”https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/412Wvfkp81L.jpg” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″ width=”500″]

The Bottom Line – Weslo Cadence G 5.9 Treadmill Review

If you are a larger person looking to get started on an exercise routine while still being able to afford food, you could go with a [easyazon_link identifier=”B01LXGBP22″ locale=”US” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″]Weslo Cadence G 5.9 treadmill[/easyazon_link]. It may work out for you, and you may reach your goals with it’s help.

But if you are over the 275 lbs. that the machine is rated for, you may soon find yourself eating food while staring at a broken-down treadmill. As you get depressed after thinking about how much it cost and the fact that it’s already broken, you eat more- and the vicious cycle continues!

The Weslo Cadence G 5.9 is a good treadmill for the thinner crowd and maybe those slightly above average. But if you need to drop some serious pounds, don’t go with this treadmill. It is easy to afford, but it isn’t going to last.

It is also worth noting that the company’s official description includes a California Prop 65 Warning: WARNING: This product contains one or more chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects, and other reproductive harm.

In conclusion, we would recommend the Freemotion 850 Treadmill instead of the Weslo Cadence.

[easyazon_image align=”center” height=”500″ identifier=”B00JVGNYWK” locale=”US” src=”https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/413OIwEEL+L.jpg” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″ width=”457″]View on Amazon

One of the hardest aspects of getting back into shape or into shape (whatever the case may be), is paying for it. Gym memberships, equipment, healthy food— the best stuff doesn’t come cheap. That much is evident with the [easyazon_link identifier=”B01LXGBP22″ locale=”US” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″]Weslo brand of treadmills[/easyazon_link]. Some would consider that a good thing, but I do not.

That is why I can’t recommend this treadmill.

We’ve all heard the saying “you get what you pay for”. That could not be more true with Weslo’s treadmills. They are priced to make it easier for people to afford to own a treadmill of their own. But the problem is, they are affordable because of how they are constructed.

If you are a bigger person like me, you are going to continually feel like you are about to run off a [easyazon_link identifier=”B01LXGBP22″ locale=”US” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″]Weslo treadmill[/easyazon_link]. They are narrow. Since running is not one of my favorite activities, the last thing I need is a reason to stop. When I feel like I must keep looking down because I might miss the treadmill with my next step—well, it doesn’t make for much of a workout.

Combine that with the noisy motor and the feeling that it is going to break with every step and it doesn’t make for a very good workout. You’ll spend more on a Freemotion Treadmill, but it will still be working in a few months.

A Weslo treadmill? It may still work. But it might not.

The Breakdown—the Pros

It’s Affordable

The cost of getting in shape can be enough to keep some people from doing it. Gym memberships are expensive, and some of the brand-name treadmills can cost a pretty penny as well. However, if you are serious about getting in shape but have trouble finding the time to go to a gym or run outside, a Weslo treadmill can help.

They are priced affordably to give more people the option to work out at home on their own time and be protected themselves from the elements. If you are tired of telling your friends that “round is a shape,” then this could be the [easyazon_link identifier=”B01LXGBP22″ locale=”US” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″]treadmill[/easyazon_link] that gets you started on the path to better health.

[easyazon_image align=”none” height=”500″ identifier=”B01LXGBP22″ locale=”US” src=”https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/41GNIVULtQL.jpg” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″ width=”459″]View on Amazon

Easy to Store/Space Saver

Having a treadmill at home can be convenient for workouts but let’s be real. No one wants to have this big, bulky machine in the middle of their bedroom or living room. If you don’t have a spare room to set it up in, what other options do you have? None!

[easyazon_link identifier=”B009P9ROII” locale=”US” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″]Weslo treadmills[/easyazon_link] are designed to be folded up easily so they can be stored out of sight when not in use. Some users have said that moving them can be difficult because they are heavy and bulky. But many have also said they are not heavy.

Amazon’s description of the G 5.9 says it weighs 117 pounds. So, no, it is not light, but how light can you reasonably expect something like a treadmill to be?

[easyazon_image align=”none” height=”500″ identifier=”B01LXGBP22″ locale=”US” src=”https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/31LkasHeAVL.jpg” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″ width=”284″]View on Amazon

Comfort Cell Cushioning

Anyone that it is larger than the average size person will tell you that one of the worst things about running—in general, not just on a [easyazon_link identifier=”B01LXGBP22″ locale=”US” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″]treadmill[/easyazon_link] – is the impact on the knees. All that bodyweight is bad enough on the knees while walking. Tack on the adding pressure that comes with running and—well, it’s not good.

That is why you will always see big guys that are serious about dropping weight wearing shoes made with gel cushioning in the soles. If the impact can be lessened even a little bit, that is a good thing—which is precisely what the Comfort Cell Cushioning built into Weslo treadmills is intended to do.

Whether you choose to walk, run, or jog, the impact felt on the knees will be lessened.

[easyazon_image align=”none” height=”500″ identifier=”B01LXGBP22″ locale=”US” src=”https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/41wNWJlRAzL.jpg” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″ width=”384″]View on Amazon

Preset Workouts

One of the worst things about taking up jogging to get in shape is the monotony that comes with running. You don’t do anything different, and if you take the same route (for those who run outside), the scenery doesn’t change.

Running is dull. Dull exercise is easy to quit which is where the preset workouts in a [easyazon_link identifier=”B01LXGBP22″ locale=”US” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″]Weslo treadmill[/easyazon_link] come in handy. There are six, and they were designed by personal trainers to help you maximize your time and get the best workout possible.

Isn’t that the purpose of working out?

[easyazon_image align=”none” height=”375″ identifier=”B01LXGBP22″ locale=”US” src=”https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/416d3w3CguL.jpg” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″ width=”500″]

The Breakdown—the Cons

It’s Poorly Made

The trouble with most ‘affordable’ stuff is that the word is also synonymous with poorly made. Several reviews on Amazon and Walmart complained about the holes for screws in the various pieces not lining up. Many people said pieces arrived already broken and some talked about the rails arriving warped. But it gets worse.

One user said the treadmill they received came with a busted motor. Customer service sent them a new motor a month later and told them to install it themselves.

If you can get it put together to a point where it is operational, you then have to worry about it holding up. A handful of users talked about their treadmill looking like it was going to cave in after just a few months of use—and they weren’t heavy!

These are 175lb and 190lb people talking about this product notwithstanding even a few months of moderate use.

It was made to be compact and easily stored, but in the process, the belt and deck are narrow. For taller and larger people, it leaves you feeling like your running on a tightrope or like you are going to miss the deck with every other step.

[easyazon_image align=”none” height=”500″ identifier=”B009P9ROII” locale=”US” src=”https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/41E3SIXAgJL.jpg” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″ width=”359″]View on Amazon

Manual Incline

Let’s be real. When it comes to working out, we all prefer to get our workouts over and done with sooner rather than later. Setting your treadmill on an incline can definitely help do just that. However, it is also not unusual to think we can do something or handle an incline only to find out that is not the case.

But since [easyazon_link identifier=”B01LXGBP22″ locale=”US” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″]Weslo treadmills[/easyazon_link] require you to set the desired incline manually before you get started, you can’t adjust it during a workout. Well—you can, but that would mean stopping your workout. Who wants to do that?

However, to make it more affordable, certain things had to go.

[easyazon_image align=”none” height=”375″ identifier=”B01LXGBP22″ locale=”US” src=”https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/416d3w3CguL.jpg” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″ width=”500″]

Durability

Running or jogging on treadmills puts a lot of pressure and torque on the components of said treadmill—especially by those who are heavier or run for longer periods of time. Many users reviewing [easyazon_link identifier=”B01LXGBP22″ locale=”US” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″]Weslo treadmills[/easyazon_link] complained about how their model couldn’t handle what they called “excessive” running or “intense” workouts.

One user weighing in at 175lbs said that he started to cave in after a few months until one day it finally cracked right down the middle. He said he only ran at 6 MPH or walked at 3.7 MPH three times a week (5-7 miles).

Other users said they felt like the treadmill bogged down under their weight. Some of them were a little heavier (low 200’s). But no one came close to the listed maximum of 275lbs.

[easyazon_image align=”none” height=”500″ identifier=”B01LXGBP22″ locale=”US” src=”https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/41h6lffjPAL.jpg” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″ width=”500″]View on Amazon

Poor Warranty

Warranties are meant to help new buyers feel like they got a good product and that if there is something wrong with it the company will take care of it. According to many reviews, that does not appear to be the case with [easyazon_link identifier=”B01LXGBP22″ locale=”US” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″]Weslo treadmills[/easyazon_link].

The manufacturer’s warranty is only good for 90 days. Many users complained in their reviews that the warranty was not very inclusive and often didn’t cover whatever part broke. If it did, the part broke after 90 days, and the user was out of luck.

One person said in his review that the motor was under warranty for a year. But when he called for help getting it fixed, he found out that certain parts of the motor fell under the 90-day warranty. So, he was out of luck.

But the company was more than happy to send a replacement part for a price (often a very high one).

[easyazon_image align=”none” height=”500″ identifier=”B01LXGBP22″ locale=”US” src=”https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/41jXzZ%2B2TlL.jpg” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″ width=”394″]

The Bottom Line

Don’t bother with one of these unless you are willing to take a gamble on how long it will last. According to many users who reviewed their purchase, they often arrive with something broken, warped, or inoperable.

If you are able to get through to customer service, they’ll work with you. But who wants to order a treadmill, wait for it to arrive, and then wait another month or two for the replacement parts to show up?

Many users complained about their Weslo treadmill not being able to withstand too many intense workouts. Weslo does have a few models that are not intended for intense workouts, i.e., the [easyazon_link identifier=”B01LXGBP22″ locale=”US” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″]Weslo CardioStride 4.0 Manual Walking Folding Treadmill[/easyazon_link].

[easyazon_image align=”none” height=”500″ identifier=”B01LXGBP22″ locale=”US” src=”https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/419w3VDxktL.jpg” tag=”upbeat-jan-20″ width=”333″]View on Amazon

The 3.0 version doesn’t have ‘walking’ in the name, but it looks like the same thing. So chances are it isn’t meant for running either.

The bottom line with Weslo treadmills is that you get what you pay for with them. They are cheap and affordable pieces of equipment. They could work just fine for you, but there is a high probability that they will not work.

If you want a reliable treadmill at home as you begin your journey towards better health, don’t buy Weslo.
